Getaround to Expand TFS Pilot Program, Seeks New Partners

Natalie Mattila

Peer-to-peer carshare platform Getaround looks to extend its pilot program with Toyota Financial Services to additional cities by 2018, Chief Financial Officer Adam Kosmicki told Auto Finance News at Auto Finance Innovation 2017.

Toyota and Getaround partnered in January to pilot a new mobility services platform in San Francisco that aims to help consumers rent out their vehicles in order to raise funds for their monthly lease payments.

The No. 1 objective for Getaround is to take the potential it’s been working on with Toyota and scale it, he said. “We are working on it,” Kosmicki said. “Now, it’s about getting it executed, getting it to scale, and getting it in the hands of more customers.”

With Toyota, Getaround is looking to expand geographically, but the startup is also seeking other partners. “In 2017 and into 2018, it’s about execution and scaling that execution,” Kosmicki said. “It’s really a fun part of the equation.”

San Francisco-based Getaround has about 3,000 vehicles listed on its platform; it has more than 500,000 registered users who collectively take between 12,000 and 15,000 trips each month.
