CFPB Dominated Auto Finance News Headlines in 2014

Larissa Padden

DroneThe Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was the hot topic in auto finance for the year, as the list of our Top 10 stories for 2014 clearly shows.

The bureau figures in no fewer than seven of the Top Ten stories.

It was a busy year for the CFPB. In September, the bureau held an Auto Finance Field Hearing where it announced the details of its proposed larger participant rule, and the long-awaited proxy methodology for determining race was released shortly afterward.

Santander Consumer USA picked up the most CFPB complaints in the first half of the year, according to an Auto Finance News analysis, and with investigations into the subprime lending practices of companies like American Honda Finance and Toyota Financial Services revealed just this past month, it looks as if there will be no slowing down for the regulatory agency in 2015.

As the year draws to a close, please join us in taking a look back with AFN’s 10 most popular stories of 2014:
