Lenders recruit for sales, IT roles

With an eye toward expansion, auto lenders are scouting sales and IT staff as the need for collection personnel wanes. Overall, auto financiers are looking to fill nearly 2,000 positions versus 1,700 at this time last year, according to an Auto Finance News analysis of job postings on 20 lenders’ websites. Popular job listings include regional sales managers, account coordinators and inside sales specialists. Lenders seek sales personnel Of 279 job openings at Westlake Financial Services , 220 are sales-related — primarily area sales managers and dealer account managers. Westlake’s sales opportunities include 55 floorplan territory managers in 28 states. Westlake is trying to staff up on the heels of a no-interest promo rolled out early this month by subsidiary Westlake Flooring Services for dealers who sign up for floorplan financing. Last year, Westlake’s floorplan portfolio increased 10% and units floored rose about 15%. Lendbuzz , meanwhile, is looking to fill 47 sales roles in 19 states. Many of the available positions — primarily those in California and Florida — seek candidates fluent in Spanish or Portuguese. In addition to dealership account managers and market development managers, Lendbuzz is also looking to hire a luxury auto finance manager based in Los Angeles. The position calls for someone with at least five years of sales or finance experience, as well as relationships with luxury dealerships and high net worth individuals. As Credit Acceptance Corp. expands its dealer network , the subprime lender is looking to fill 50 market area manager positions in 24 states. Texas, Florida, Minnesota and Washington have at least four openings each. CACC is offering market area managers the opportunity for unlimited commission in addition to the posted compensation — listed as $111,450 in Madison, Wis., for example, and $124,800 in Queens, N.Y. In the final quarter of 2024, CACC recorded its second-highest unit and dollar volume ever, according to its latest earnings report. The company added 902 new dealers in the quarter, taking its total dealer tally to 10,149. But volume per dealer in the period dropped 3.7% year over year, due, in part, to the competitive landscape, the company noted. Consumer Portfolio Services , meanwhile, seeks regional sales managers in five states. The position’s description calls for candidates who are “smart, dynamic, motivated professionals.” CPS further describes the job as a “hands-on position,” requiring successful candidates to be “active every day educating dealers about our loan programs, promoting loan growth, collaborating with our originations team and giving guidance to dealers as needed.” Ally Financial ’s sales position listings call for applicants who “love to play” and are driven by creativity. The company describes its account executives as folks who “throw new ideas against the wall and watch them stick,” and as “problem solvers who are resilient, can face adversity, aren’t afraid of rejection and emerge as champions when times are tough,” according to Ally’s career site. IT job posts In addition to bolstering their sales teams, auto financiers are also looking to reinforce their IT staff. GM Financial has 57 open IT-related positions , including scrum master, PSRE manager and various engineers. For instance, 15 posts — including cloud and software engineers — require Kubernetes experience, which entails automating the process of running and scaling software applications across multiple servers. While most engineering positions lack salary information, GMF’s Kubernetes engineer post lists a base salary ranging from $114,400 to $217,400. T oyota Financial Services , meanwhile, is scouting for 49 IT jobs , nine of which relate to cybersecurity. The captive is looking to fill positions related to third-party cyber risk, product cybersecurity and cloud cyber protection, among other roles. In addition, TFS is on the hunt for software engineers and data scientists. More than half of American Credit Acceptance ’s open positions center on IT. The Spartanburg, S.C.-based lender seeks multiple systems administrators, software and network engineers, and data scientists. Some of ACA’s posts attempt to attract candidates with clever job descriptions. For instance, the listing for a strategic analytics leader starts with: “Are you afraid of the blank page? Can you build something from nothing?” Similarly, the job post for a director of analytics opens with: “We love curious minds! Here's a fun puzzle to get you thinking.” The listing goes on to describe a riddle involving three mislabeled boxes, asking the candidate to deduce the boxes’ contents. The listing continues with: “If you enjoyed that word problem, your next analytics adventure awaits,” and it goes on to detail the requirements of the position. As the sector picks up again, financiers are getting creative in their hunts for qualified sales and technology personnel.
