Tom Shortt, chief executive of Vroom, will discuss the economy, e-commerce growth initiatives and market expectations for 2024 in a fireside chat on Monday, Oct. 30, at 9:10 a.m. ET during Auto Finance Summit 2023 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Shortt has served as CEO and as a member of the board of directors since May 2022. He previously served as chief operating officer for the online retailer. Before joining Vroom, Shortt was vice president at Walmart, where he helped develop the company’s e-commerce supply chain strategy, according to Vroom’s website.

Shortt has also held senior roles in supply chain, fulfilment and logistics at ACCO Brands, Fisher Scientific, Home Depot, Office Depot and Unisource.

Vroom’s strategy for 2023 includes “responsible growth, selling through aged inventory and proving variable cost per unit,” Shortt said during Vroom’s Q2 earnings call.

Gross profit in Vroom’s retail financing segment, which includes the retailer’s captive finance arm United Auto Credit’s operations, increased 18.6% year over year to $34.1 million in the second quarter.

Auto Finance Summit 2023 also includes a fireside chat with Jim Drotman, executive vice president of Ford Pro FinSimple at Ford Credit. The summit provides networking and professional development opportunities through interactive roundtables and sessions on capital funding, EV financing and the subprime market.
