High vehicle prices and elevated interest rates have created a challenging environment for low-income borrowers, making it crucial for the industry to offer financing programs that look beyond credit scores.

The luncheon, which takes place on Thursday, May 2, at noon, includes a keynote address from Michelle Corson, founder and chief executive of Irving, Texas-based On the Road Companies, the parent company of nonprofit auto lender On the Road Lending as well as a dealership and repair business.

Luncheon participants will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with Corson following the keynote address.

On the Road Lending, founded in 2013, provides auto loans to consumers with low FICO scores or thin credit histories. The financier gathers data from loan applications to determine a customer’s total budget, including the car note, insurance, gas, maintenance and other ownership costs, President Lonnie Smith previously told Auto Finance News.

Corson founded On the Road in 2011 when she formed Champion Impact Capital, which invests in social enterprises, according to her company bio. She attracted investors to On the Road Sustainability Funds who shared the belief that cars lead to better jobs and improved lives.

Prior to starting On the Road, Corson was chief executive at The Real Estate Council, which provided seed capital for Klyde Warren Park and the Dallas Urban Land Bank. Her experience spans 30 years in finance and commercial real estate, venture capital, opportunity funds and private equity investment.

Auto Finance Summit East also includes an interactive “Shark Tank”-style workshop along with roundtable discussions and sessions spanning aftermarket compliance and sales, electric vehicle financing and artificial intelligence.
