Toyota Sales Rise, But Demand For Prius Falls

Larissa Padden

Toyota Motor Corp. sales were up 3% in June, thanks to a rise in volume for both Toyota and Lexus vehicle sales. Corollas were up 17% with 30,945 units sold in June, and Camry sales were up 17% with 40,664 units sold, making it the top-selling Toyota car of the year so far. But despite the continued demand for Toyota models, the Prius, once king of the hybrids, experienced a 12% drop in sales for June, and remains 11% down for the year.

Three of the seven Lexus models rose in June, with the entry-level IS more than doubling its sales to 3,932 units sold for the month. Toyota Motor Corp.’s year-to-date U.S. sales have risen 5% to nearly 1.2 million units sold.
