GM debuts new Chevrolet Silverado EV

General Motors unveiled its Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup truck, which offers the same strength, durability and performance as the carmaker’s internal combustion engine truck. [caption id="attachment_55819326" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Photo courtesy of General Motors [/caption] The Silverado EV platform is built on a 24-module Ultium battery pack as part of the truck’s new body architecture and the manufacturer’s “clean-slate approach,” Nicole Kraatz , chief engineer of Chevrolet battery electric trucks, said during GM Chief Executive Mary Barra ’s keynote speech at CES 2022. The Silverado EV will be available in two models: the fleet-oriented WT (work truck) model and the RST. The WT model, which will launch first, offers 510 horsepower and 615 foot-lbs of torque. The RST can deliver up to 664 horsepower and 780 foot-lbs of torque through its wide-open watts mode. Both models have a GM-estimated range of at least 400 miles on a full charge. GM debuted the Silverado EV at CES 2022, where the OEM expanded on its strategy to be all-electric by 2035. The interior of the new Silverado EV is equipped with integrated 11.3-inch diagonal high-definition touch screens, first-row storage, and EV to EV charging. It will be the first Chevrolet vehicle to feature Ultifi, a software update system allowing consumers to maintain their vehicle in real-time. The RST offers additional options including four-wheel steering, automatic adaptive air suspension, multi-flex midgate, multi-flex, tailgate, 17-inch-diagonal LCD infotainment screen, and 11-inch reconfigurable driver instrument display and trailering-capable Super Cruise. GM’s Silverado EV WT has a starting MSRP of $39,900, and more packages of the truck, including the RST and Trail Boss, will have MSRPs ranging from $50,000 to $80,000 or more. The manufacturer is already taking consumer reservations for the truck, which will be produced as a 2023 model year. “The Silverado EV maintains the prowess that Silverado is known for but takes it even further,” Barra said. “It can tow, haul, carry and do it all with incredible performance and dependability both on and off the road with no tailpipe emissions.” Auto Finance Innovation Summit, the premier event for technology in auto finance, returns April 25-26 in San Diego.
