Lincoln Automotive Financial Services started offering its loan and lease customers free access to their credit scores and an identity theft protection package at no extra charge, the company said.
The package includes access to VantageScore, a credit score developed jointly by the three major national credit reporting companies; identity theft protection with up to $1 million in identity theft insurance coverage and no deductible ; credit monitoring and activity alerts with unlimited access to the client’s TransUnion Credit Report; and a dedicated identity restoration specialist to help clients restore their identities if they have a problem that’s covered.
Lincoln Automotive Financial Services is a unit of Ford Motor Credit Co. The identity theft package includes what the finance company called lost wallet protection. To get the protection, clients upload their driver’s license, credit cards and other important numbers. If the wallet goes missing, the customer notifies a specialist who reports the missing cards to the issuers, and begins the replacement process.
According to the TransUnion web site, suggested retail prices for ongoing credit monitoring and other, similar services are in a range from around $9.95 to $17.95 per month. No-charge coverage is for two or three years, depending on the loan or lease term.
Several other auto lenders offer access to free credit scores, including Ally Financial and Hyundai Capital America, the captive finance company which serves the Hyundai and Kia brands in the United States.
