The certified pre-owned market uptick continues. On the heels of a record sales year in 2012 and the best January the market’s ever had, dealership CPO programs had their best February ever, according to Autodata research. Last month the CPO market also recorded its highest ever daily selling rate.
CPO sales hit 156,947 units last month, up 5.1% year over year. Through February, 307,572 CPO vehicles were sold, a 9.7% increase from the same time frame last year, when 280,454 CPO autos were sold.
Meanwhile, the record-breaking daily selling rate was 6,539 vehicles, according to Autodata. Among specific manufacturers, Ford/Mercury, Hyundai, Mazda, and Volkswagen all reported that last month was their best February ever.
VW’s CPO sales were 7,301 units, a 4.4% increase from last year, and the automaker’s 10th consecutive monthly high. Hyundai’s certified sales rose 9% with 5,627 vehicles sold, while Ford’s brands moved 16,096 cars last month. Specifically, Ford/Mercury sold 14,539 CPO cars, and Lincoln sold 1,557 CPO units. Mazda’s 2,638 units leapt 40.8% over last year’s February CPO numbers.
