As the Chrysler and Jeep brands continue to gain momentum, Chrysler group reported U.S. sales of 144,811 units, up 20% from June 2011 – the group’s best June sales since 2007.
The big winner for the month was the Fiat brand, up 122% year over year. Fiat sales last month totaled 4,004, up from 1,803 in June 2011. The brand set a sales record for the fifth straight month. In fact, more Fiat 500 vehicles were sold during the first six months of 2012 than during all of 2011, the company said.
Chrysler brand sales were up 63% to 26,863, while Jeep brand sales were up 23% to 44,519 units. For the Dodge brand, sales grew 2% to 44,315 units.
General Motors Co. reported U.S. sales of 248,750 vehicles in June, up 16% from June 2011 – the company’s highest monthly sales figure since September 2008. The Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands all logged double-digit increases.
Ford Motor Co. reported U.S. sales of 207,759, up 7% from June 2011. High demand for the Ford Escape helped the model achieve its best month ever, up 28% to 28,500 units. The Explorer also had a strong month with a 35% increase, while F-Series sales topped 50,000 — the best June sales performance in five years, the company said.
Toyota Motor Corp. sales rose to 177,795 units, up 60.3% from last year. Falling slightly under expectations, Toyota was projected to outpace other car manufacturers with a 66% increase in sales, according to Edmunds.com
Nissan North America reported U.S. sales were up 28% to 92,237 unites. Nissan Juke sales were up 53% to 3,101 units, a June record. The Nissan Rogue also achieved best-ever June sales, with 10,999 units,up 47% over June 2011.
Volkswagen of America sold 38,170 vehicles in June, up 34% from June 2011. It was both the best June and the best first six months of the year for the VW brand since 1973.
