In memoriam: David Buchanan

Auto Finance News
David Buchanan

With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you of the Aug. 11 passing of David Buchanan, former head of Fidelity Bank’s indirect lending business and an esteemed member of the AutoFinanceNews.net community. He was 62.

David was a 40-year veteran of the financial services industry — he spent 23 of those years at Fidelity. He was known for his keen memory and depth of knowledge in the indirect auto business.

Colleagues shared memories of David on a memorial page, referring to him as a “great leader,” a “true gentleman” and a “wonderful person” who “contributed so much to our industry.”

“We both worked at GMAC and I had the pleasure to work for David at AmSouth and Fidelity,” wrote one colleague. “He was a real genius with indirect lending and led the way with selling loans and monetizing every aspect of the business.”

Another commenter wrote: “We so enjoyed the visits he made to our dealership, just to stop by and say hi. He many times offered support to us during our past business years with compassion, a trait that will be missed by the large banking industry. ”

David is survived by his wife, Susan; his son, Jared; his daughter, Brittany; and his daughter-in-law, Julie; as well as his three grandchildren: Elizabeth, Elya, and Evan.

Our hearts go out to David’s family and friends during this difficult time.
