Powersports values decline in September

Powersports values declined across nearly every market segment in September, in line with a gradual return to more traditional seasonal patterns following fluctuating values during the summer. The watercraft and jet boat segments tallied the largest decline in September when compared with the prior month, with both segments declining 2.2% month over month, according to Black Book ’s latest market insight report. Metric cruiser values fell 1.9% sequentially while values on ATVs and utility vehicles both declined 1.3% MoM, marking the largest declines for non-marine powersports units. The only segment to see an increase in values was domestic cruisers, which ticked up 0.5% MoM, according to Black Book. In July, the next most recent report available, most segments posted MoM declines in pricing, which followed slight increases in May . “This year has seen the gradual return of traditional valuation patterns, though prices are still significantly elevated versus historical levels,” said Scott Yarbrough, senior analyst of motorcycles and powersports at Black Book. The off-road vehicle segment posted one of the most substantial changes in performance compared with September 2021 as values either declined or posted smaller increases during four of the last six months, according to the report. New-unit supply across the powersports industry is also improving as manufacturers continue to resolve supply chain issues. Meanwhile, motorhome values increased 8.2% sequentially in July with an average selling price of $79,668, a 5.5% increase year over year, according to Black Book. Towable values increased 4.7% sequentially but declined 12.1% YoY with an average selling price of $21,221.
