Now that the Federal Government’s strangely named “Cash For Clunkers” automotive sales stimulus bill has been approved by both the House of Representatives and the US Senate, I am seeing quite a few dealership management teams making plans and preparing marketing, advertising and promotional messages designed to leverage the $1,000,000,000.00 earmarked as cash incentives to customers for buying a newer, more fuel efficient vehicles… With the cash on the hood at between $3,500 and $4,500 per vehicle sold, several dealers have told me that they think that this program will be highly effective in driving increased car sales.
However, there are limits to the bill’s funding by category of vehicle and it is anticipated that dealers who act quickly will be able to secure more federal funds for their customers than dealers who are too slow in getting ramped up.
