Tell Me When to Apply

Auto Finance News

I’m not a patient man. I hate to wait for just about anything. Microwaves can’t cook food fast enough. Christmas and birthdays can’t come soon enough (or often enough). And even instant coffee takes too long to make.

Waiting for something to go on sale, or for the right deal to come along, can be torture. That’s why sites like Hukkster are meant for people like me. No more constantly refreshing a site to see if the price on an item has changed. Instead, you just tell the site the items you want monitored, and when you want notification of a price drop, and then you sit back and go about your daily business.

Wouldn’t that be a great tool for auto lenders to offer customers? Consumers enter in their email addresses (which is a marketing win in and of itself, as far as any lender should be concerned), and when rates drop below a certain threshold, or when other important loan criteria change, those people are sent an email with the information and a link to apply for a loan.

Rather than pelting consumers with direct mail or other marketing materials with generic offers, being able to notify potential customers when an offer that suits them is available is the kind of targeted messaging that more people will respond to. Carmakers have so many promotions that it can be hard to keep track of them all. And signing up for general email notifications is often just an invitation to get spammed with nonsense that nobody reads. But if I tell you that I would be highly motivated to apply for a loan if my interest rate would be less than 1.9%, or if I could buy the car I want with a monthly payment under $250, well that is worth its weight in gold.

For that kind of deal, I’d be happy to wait until the cows came home.
