Despite weathering its own recall issues this year, Toyota Motor Corp. sales increased 6.4% in July, compared to the same time last year, according to a company press release, with 188,469 total units sold.
“Rising consumer confidence, coupled with momentum in the marketplace, boosted auto sales in July,” Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager, said in the release. “Led by an all-time record month for RAV4 and double-digit gains for both Camry and Corolla, Toyota was the number one retail brand.”
Individually, Camry sales were up 15% with sales of almost 40,000 units, the new Corolla model was up 26% with almost 31,000 units sold, and Toyota light trucks were up 15%, posting its best-ever July sales.
Prius sales, however, were down yet again, with 20,675 units sold, compared to 23,294 units sold in July of 2013. The Prius experienced a 12% drop in sales in June, and remains 11% down for the year.
Toyota ranks first in global vehicle sales, with 5.1 million vehicles sold in 2014.
