About two dozen Santander Consumer USA internal audit employees volunteered at the North Texas Food Bank distribution center in Plano, Texas, to combat hunger right in their own backyard.

“The work done by the food bank is a worthy cause,” one volunteer named Alejandro said in a Sept. 20 blog post. “They help address the problem of hunger within our community with a special focus on families in need.”

This is just the latest donation SCUSA has made at the North Texas Food Bank. In February, SCUSA tripled donations up to $50,000 in a campaign that ran for about two months. Late last year, 93 SCUSA volunteers took to the distribution center to package more than 25,000 meals, which weighed nearly 17 tons.

Over the course of the most recent volunteer day, SCUSA employees formed an assembly line to put together 150 boxes and more than 1,000 bags of food – enough to provide 3,000 meals to North Texans. Other SCUSA volunteers sorted donations, packed lunches and snack bags for children, and assisted with inventory organization. “A few hours of our time can help thousands,” said Robert, another volunteer.

The SCUSA auditors also benefited from their time at the food bank, Robert said, adding that “it was a great opportunity to work together with our teammates outside of the office environment and develop camaraderie.”

The North Texas Food Bank was founded in 1982 and distributes donated, purchased and prepared foods through a network of more than 260 partner agencies in 13 counties. They provide about 200,000 meals a day to children, seniors and families.
