Ally Financial Inc. will establish its new headquarters in the landmark One Detroit Center office tower, or the soon-to-be renamed “Ally Detroit Center,” the company announced last week.
Ally currently has five facilities across Southeast Michigan, including its headquarters in the Renaissance Center on the Detroit riverfront. Many of these facilities have leases coming due in the next year, an Ally spokeswoman told Auto Finance News.
“This is an opportunity for us to find a new Michigan headquarters that can bring all of our associates in the area together to drive more collaboration and creativity,” she said.
The company will relocate 700 team members currently working in Detroit to Ally Detroit Center, along with another 600 team members from its four other Southeast Michigan locations.
“We had been looking for a new headquarters location for some time, both inside and outside the city,” the spokeswoman told AFN. “There were limited options that could accommodate our needs of more than 300,000 square feet. When the opportunity came to us for One Detroit Center, we knew that was the right option for us.”
In addition, Ally will employ about 200 independent third-party contractors and vendors in Detroit for the project. Ally, which provides financial products and services to 17,000 auto dealers nationwide and 4 million of their retail customers, will begin the move in the spring of 2016.
