Structured Finance Association, MetLife experts to discuss capital markets at AFS 2023

Analysts will take the stage to discuss the state of capital markets and funding costs on Monday, Oct. 30, at 3:30 p.m. PST during the Auto Finance Summit. The summit takes place Oct. 29-31 at the Bellagio Las Vegas.

Elen Callahan, head of research at Structured Finance Association, and Priya Desai, head of ABS investments at MetLife Investment Management, will discuss current spreads and volatile cost dynamics and how to understand investor demand and diversification needs. They will also assess prime and subprime performance and issuance trends.

Analysts and asset-backed securitization (ABS) issuers are keeping an eye on rising delinquencies and overall credit performance, Callahan told Auto Finance News. “We’re seeing a divergence between prime and subprime … [that is] making its way to issuance levels,” she said.

Still, auto ABS issuance volume continues to “exceed expectations,” Callahan said.

Callahan directs the Structured Finance Association’s research strategy and education efforts on the securitization industry. Prior to joining the association, she held senior positions at Deutsche Bank and Global FIC Research.

Desai leads MetLife’s ABS credit underwriting. MetLife had $579.8 billion total assets under management as of Dec. 31, 2022, with an estimated $10 billion ABS portfolio spanning consumer and esoteric assets.

Auto Finance Summit 2023 provides networking and learning opportunities through interactive roundtables and workshops along with sessions covering topics such as AI and digitization strategies, compliance and subprime financing.
