Koenigsegg Automotive, a Swedish maker of hand-built sports cars, may be the front-runner to take Saab off GM's hands. An acquisition could add to Saab dealers' vehicle lineups, while at the same time boosting competition for GM, Ford, and Chrysler.

Koenigsegg has just backed out of the deal to buy Saab, according to the latest reports.
