A question was raised last week at the AFSA Vehicle Finance Conference about what a repeat of the Cash for Clunkers program should look like. Here's the question:

If the federal government offered another vehicle sales stimulus program, what should it be?

First of all, No to a second round. But if so, maybe we eliminate the clunker part and simply give deductions for auto finacing to the individual. This could help create business for GMAC and move stock without the costly scrapping program attached to the first program. Also, we could extend the tax break to used inventory also... part of the original clunker program was that it did not reach the lower end buyer. They could not afford to purchase a new car.
