The National Automobile Dealers Association is raising questions about the Obama administration’s potential fuel efficiency goal of 60 miles per gallon by 2025. (Currently, automakers are working to reach an average of 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016.)

“We would all like to believe consumers would be willing to pay whatever it takes to reach such a worthy goal,” said NADA Chairman Ed Tonkin at an Automotive Press Association conference yesterday. “But will they? Or is this another example of getting ahead of the consumer?”
